The health of trees is our priority, which is why Arbo-Design Inc offers many services in arboriculture. First, we proceed with an examination to identify the source of the problem and determine the best care to give.
Wrongly called “pollarding”, tree pruning is useful, even necessary, especially in urban areas or small gardens. The lack of light, wind, ice and snow leads naturally to the pruning of trees, which often leaves snags or wounds that take time to heal and are likely to bring rot and insects and even develop diseases. Produced by a professional arborist, pruning helps to keep your trees healthy and strong, and Arbo-Design offers different types of pruning.
Complete Sanitation Pruning
This kind of pruning is done in order to keep the tree in good shape. Sanitation pruning consists of removing interfering, dead, diseased, harmful, broken, weak, bark-included and weakly attached branches. This kind of pruning also includes the control of sprouts, suckers and snags. Please note that for mature trees having main branches with included bark, guying can be an option. We remove up to a maximum of 20% of the tree's biomass, which reduces the wind pressure on your trees and improves their structure.
Hazard Reduction Pruning
The purpose of hazard pruning is to remove dead, diseased, weak or broken branches, as well as any branches that could present a human or property hazard.
Thinning
Thinning consists of removing a few of the branches carried by the framework in order to aerate and lighten the tree's crown without changing its natural dimensions and to provide better light on your property or infrastructure.
Crown Restructuring
Crown restructuring consists of fixing structural defects caused by a break in the framework, radical interventions, natural causes or even aesthetic defects. The objective is to give back to the tree its natural shape.
Formative Pruning
A new tree also needs to be well taken care of. With the formative pruning, we can influence its growth and thus contribute to improving its structure by pruning certain branches to allow it to grow in optimal conditions.
Over time, formative pruning will help reduce the risk of major breakage. Your tree will be more secure. When your tree matures, it will be in better shape, which will reduce the cost of future interventions.
Clearance of Infrastructures
In urban areas, it is very frequent that trees are located near infrastructures (buildings, houses, sheds, swings, gazebos, clotheslines, telecommunication wires, etc.). Some parts of the tree structure are in contact with your infrastructure, which can cause damage and wounds to your trees. Over time, these wounds become an entrance for insects and diseases, which threaten the health and integrity of your trees. This is why it is important to ensure regular care of your trees and perform infrastructure clearing.
It is important to let professionals take care of your trees because bad interventions can harm the health of your tree for the rest of its life. Our professionals respect the BNQ standards when pruning. These standards ensure exceptional work quality, which will allow you to preserve a healthy and sustainable urban forest estate.
Urban flora is very important to us. However, it can happen that a tree is dead or presents a risk to its environment. In these cases, it is necessary to cut it down to eliminate any potential danger.
If you think it is necessary to cut down a tree, you can contact us. We will first examine the tree to determine if it really needs to be cut down, taking into account its shape and the environment.
If it turns out that the tree does need to be cut down, our team of arborists will get to work. We will carry out the felling in complete safety for you and the surrounding area.
With our equipment at the cutting edge of technology, we are able to provide you with quality service, even in the most complex situations.
In order to provide a complete service during a tree felling, we offer a stump removal service. This method consists in crushing (shredding) the stump on the ground. This avoids the need to proceed by ripping out the stump, a method that inevitably causes much greater damage and huge pits to fill. The use of a stump grinder does not damage the land or any other nearby structure. The grinder is used to create a planting pit in case you want to plant a new tree.
Planting a tree is a very important thing for us and the environment, even more so in urban areas. It helps reduce pollution and provides us with some shade to cool off.
However, planting a tree is not something to be taken lightly. Several things must be taken into account when choosing the right trees to plant. The type of soil, sunlight, air space and exposure must be analyzed to ensure good growth.
The price of a plantation varies according to several factors, such as the size of the tree chosen, the species of the tree and the accessibility of the planting site. We can also set up a post-planting follow-up plan with annual visits, formative pruning, and insect and disease control.
This is why it is important to hire a professional arborist who has the skills required to determine the type of tree to choose. At Arbo-Design Inc, we have the know-how to give you advice and carry out an efficient and precise planting.
The emerald ash borer is a destructive insect that attacks ash trees. When an ash tree becomes infested with EAB, its chances of survival are greatly reduced. These infestations can manifest themselves in the form of galleries or crown dieback.
Over the past few years, the emerald ash borer seems to be causing havoc in the Montreal area, which is why if an area is infested, it is important to contact professionals for treatment before proceeding with any felling.
When you notice infested trees or areas, contact us quickly to determine if they can still be treated and saved. Don't wait for too long!
We use a biopesticide that can protect the trees for a period of about two years once it is injected. This pesticide acts as a kind of vaccine to protect the trees without having to cut them down.
Of all the tree care options, the tree root system and soils are often forgotten. However, they are often related to many growth problems and sometimes even to some safety issues. At Arbo-Design Inc, we handle this kind of care.
The issues that can emerge are due to a weakened soil anchor caused by a variety of factors, such as root system rot, previous excavation, excessive compaction or simply limited underground space.
Thanks to the evolution of technology and research, we are able to remedy these issues. To do so, we use an air excavation device (Air-Spade) that allows us to operate safely in the root system without affecting its integrity.
Decompaction by Adding Organic Matter and Mulch
Soil compaction is probably one of the worst enemies of our trees in urban areas. The simple act of walking on soaked soil can cause compaction. This can slow down root growth and thus reduce the tree's ability to obtain the water and elements required to grow.
Using our Air-Spade air excavation device, we are able to decompress the soil. We incorporate a compost additive into the soil and install a mulch on top to reduce the drying out of the new mixture.
Elimination of Suffocating Roots
Sometimes trees create roots that circle around the trunk. These roots choke the tree by restricting the flow of sap at the crown, resulting in a dieback of the branch.
With our Air-Spade excavation device, we are able to reach these suffocating roots and remove them without damaging other roots nearby.
Root System Health Diagnostics
Whether it's a problem like fungal rot or insect dieback, our Air-Spade device allows us to make a more accurate diagnosis without damaging the healthy roots.
Excavation for Underground Pipes or Cable Installation
Sometimes electrical or telecommunication wires or irrigation pipes must be placed in the root zone. Our Air-Spade device allows us to dig trenches to pass these infrastructures without damaging the roots.
Vertical or Trench Mulch Installation
This method consists of making holes in the root zone to add compost to reduce soil compaction, increase oxygen supply and provide organic matter to the root system.
Depending on the surface to be treated, we will evaluate if we need to use vertical or trench mulch. If the surface is relatively large, then we will use the second method. However, the depth of the trenches can vary.
Root Pruning
When excavating near trees, the pre-cutting of roots is necessary. With our Air-Spade device, we are able to make clean cuts without tearing the roots. This reduces the risk of rotting.
Decompaction Following Construction Work
Using machinery to move through a root zone compacts the soil surface, preventing water and oxygen from entering the soil and depriving the roots of essential elements for nutrient absorption.
Why choose to transplant a tree? Because transplanting a tree has many advantages over planting a new one. Rather than enjoying the benefits that a mature tree brings to our environment in a few years' time, transplanting allows us to move a tree from one location to another.
While felling sometimes seems the ideal solution when a tree is, for example, too close to a fence or prevents light from entering our homes, transplanting allows us to keep the mature tree and move it to a place where its presence will be more appropriate.
A mature tree brings ecological benefits through its absorption of air pollutants; its place is essential for biodiversity and limiting heat islands, and its already abundant foliage or thorns help absorb surrounding noise.
If you notice a tree is about to fall, our team of arborists is available for emergency service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You'll get a quick response and intervention to cut down the tree and remove any danger.
We are at your disposal for any branches that represent a danger to you and your environment. We will move quickly to remove them and allow you to be safe.
Pruning, cutting down or protecting a tree requires the intervention of an arboriculture professional, because poor care can damage the health of your tree. Arbo-Design Inc guarantees exceptional quality work that follows BNQ standards in order to preserve your urban forest estate in the Montreal area.
